Common Ground Farm – Thurston County
Julie Puhich and Nancy Laich have been row cropping since the early 80’s on this 14 acres near Olympia’s city limits. As housing development surrounds them the assessed value of their homesite has skyrocketed. At the same time support by the community support for farming on the urban fringe is greater every year as well.
Julie and Nancy are both strong advocates for farm land preservation and intend to keep their land in agricultural production as long as possible. This voluntary program assesses their land for agriculture; a use that they consider “highest and best”.
